We are a broker-dealer that makes connections between qualified investors and select managers. We currently have a number of managers under contract but are responsive to investor needs when introducing a manager. Our current managers range in strategy from Long/short equity, Systematic macro and micro traders, CTAs, High Yield, etc.; and ranging in size, from new managers with little or no AUM to multi-billion dollar AUM managers. The managers' underlying characteristic is they all possess a carefully articulated and demonstrable edge.

Our Philosophy

We are driven by our investors needs. Our primary focus is to expand the bandwidth of these institutional investors by filtering the broad universe of investment strategies to identify unique pedigreed managers with specialized talent. We work on a very targeted basis and only provide introduction between manager and investor if objectives are clearly aligned.

C. Richard Bartels, Jr. CFA, CTA

Managing Director

Richard Bartels is a results-oriented marketing executive with 35+ years of experience in expanding assets for capable focused single strategy managers of hedge and CTA funds.

At Race Rock Capital and predecessor firms, Rich has raised more than $1.5 billion for select managers from institutional sources. Earlier Rich founded Rosenberg Institutional Equity Management with four partners and grew it to $10 billion under management in four years. He negotiated a joint venture with Nomura Securities resulting in the establishment of a series of Luxembourg unit trusts with assets of $3 billion and revenues of $24 million. As head of the Portfolio Rebalancing Desk at Jefferies & Company he increased portfolio-trading revenues by over 150% in one year. While at Batterymarch he assisted in securing and exploiting different alliances to bring in more than $1 billion in emerging market assets in less than fifteen months enabling firm to be sold because of improved bottom line.

Managing Director

Responsible for three major areas including sales and marketing on and off shore for hedge funds, and fund of funds.

Primarily focused on quantitative and systematic equity, futures and fixed income funds.

John McGillian

John has three decades of experience in financial services specializing in alternative asset management. He founded Caxton Symmetry LLC, a hedge fund partnership with Caxton Associates Inc., one of the most successful hedge funds in the world. Throughout the next 20 years he honed his skills in identifying early hedge fund talent; investing on his own behalf and that of his clients, including family office and institutional investors. Over the past 30 years John has acquired extensive investment knowledge and has cultivated an extensive global network of investment managers.

John is a leader in his community and very active in a number of philanthropic endeavors focused on education and the environment. He has served on the boards of Epiphany School in Dorchester MA, Johns Hopkins SAIS (School of Advanced International Studies), the Fishers Island Conservancy and Fishers Island Development Corporation. John has Series 7, 24, 63 and 3 registrations.

Geordie Miliotis

George "Geordie" Miliotis has 9 years of industry experience raising capital for a variety of financial products. He started his career at a HNW/Multi Family Office associated with National Life of Vermont, where he was a portfolio analyst and small pension design consultant. From there Geordie moved to MFS where he held roles in consulting and sales in both retail and institutional channels. At Race Rock Geordie focuses on raising institutional capital for a select group of Hedge Funds and Alternative strategies. He maintains his Series 7, Series 63 registrationss.

Geordie graduated from Wheaton College with a BS in Economics, where he played Varsity Soccer and Rugby. His senior year, Geordie was awarded the Wheaton College Scholar Athlete Award and he is also a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society. Geordie also maintains a strong commitment to philanthropy as President of Alex's team Foundation, a non-profit organization he founded with his family in 2002. It is focused on funding cancer research and improving patient and family care. He lives in the North End of Boston where he enjoys playing squash and is a longtime Patriots season ticket holder.

Chad Bartels

Chad is a Registered Principal of Race Rock Capital and has 15+ years of financial industry experience. Prior to joining RRC, he worked with Woodlawn Advisors, an options boutique in Stamford, CT, where he served as a Director of Equity Derivative Sales. Before Woodlawn, he was a Director of Equity Sales & Trading at Soleil Securities. Chad began his career at Jefferies & Co where he held roles as Equity Sales Trader and Nasdaq Market Maker. He graduated from Babson College in Wellesley, MA with a BS in Economics and was a member of the Men's Varsity Lacrosse team. Chad lives in Darien, CT with his wife and two sons. When not working or spending time with his family he enjoys golf, saltwater fishing and upland bird hunting. Chad holds his Series 3, 7, 24 and 63 registrations.

Ed Salmon

Before joining RRC, Ed spent more than 30 years as a senior equity sales trader. He covered a variety of Institutional accounts establishing deep revenue generating relationships in the Boston and New York region. Ed holds the series 7 and 63 registrations. He grew up in Boston and enjoys paddle tennis and golf.

Laura Ross Moore

Laura's career in finance has spanned over 35 years with a focus on global trading of futures and alternative investments. She began her career in the early 1980's as a trader of soft commodities in Brazil hedging for clients. She is fluent in Portuguese. Returning to the US in the mid 80's she continued to trade commodities and financial futures building a team of 15 people based in the US and London. This team were among the top producers at Dean Witter. Laura was the first woman appointed to the Dean Witter Chairman's club. Her career path changed in the 90's when she began trading for hedge funds and was involved in relationship management for 4 multi-billion hedge funds.

The past 5 years she has been the Director of Capital Introductions for Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking (FKA Newedge). Laura worked with a team of 150 prime brokerage professionals globally to increase the group's trading/clearing profits, brand awareness and relationships with institutional hedge fund allocators. She advised hedge fund clients on key features of asset-raising strategies, including target market sector/region, fund and fee structure offerings, IR staffing, seed opportunities, and market trends. Her team produced educational events and customized road shows to highlight manager capabilities to investors. Laura carries her series 3, 7 and 63 with Race Rock. Laura is involved with a number of philanthropic endeavors focused on animals, health and education.

Sarah Morton

Sarah brings over twenty five years of experience working with institutional investment managers to raise their profile in the marketplace. During this period she has managed relationships between institutional intermediaries and asset owners for Eaton Vance Management, Evergreen Investments, Wellington Management and The Boston Company.

Ms. Morton is Founder and Managing Partner of Atlantic Pacific Partners, LLC which provides distribution services to boutique investment managers entering the institutional marketplace.

Sarah received her MBA from the University of New Hampshire's Whittemore School of Business and Economics and her BA from Colby College. She holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 registrations and is a member of AIMSE, and a past member of the CFA Institute, WIPS and 100 Women in Hedge Funds.

She has served on the Board of the Cohasset Library Trust and that of the Reynolds Foundation.

Emily L. Meyer

Emily Meyer has 13 years of financial services experience, focused exclusively on intermediary distribution. Her expertise centers on helping emerging managers raise capital through effective positioning and communication. Having worked in nearly every distribution channel, Emily brings a deep understanding of the complex structures within asset management today - both institutional and retail.

Prior to joining RRC, Emily worked at 2 boutique investment management firms, one focused on currency strategies and the other on ETF portfolios. At both firms, Emily's role was centered around building distribution infrastructure, retooling marketing and ultimately raising capital.

In line with her work over the last few years, Emily began her career at Fidelity Investments, where she helped establish Fidelity's first efforts to distribute Fidelity products in the registered investment advisor (RIA) channel.

Additionally, Emily is Co-head of Global Marketing & Communications for Women in ETFs, the first women's networking organization in the exchange traded fund industry. In this role, Emily helped the organization build out their online presence and overall brand. Formed in January 2014, the organization has experienced tremendous growth with over 1,400 members and chapters spanning 5 continents.

Emily holds a B.S. from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN and an MBA from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. She has also served on the Board of Trustees for the Providence Preservation Society in Rhode Island.

Katie Weckler

Katie Weckler has 20 years of financial experience beginning at Lincoln Financial, working on a team that focused on estate planning, transitioning to Comerica Private Bank to focusing more on investments and ultimately as a financial planner at Fidelity Investments. In her role at Fidelity, Katie was responsible for managing hundreds of high net worth and mass affluent retail clients invest billions of their dollars and to create proactive retirement plans. It was at Fidelity that Katie obtained her Certified Financial Planner designation and decided to pursue her next step as a sales professional in the asset management business.

Katie was part of the original sales team at F-Squared Investments, one of the fastest growing asset managers, and helped build out the original sales structure which led to the most profitable business unit operating at around a 70% profit margin. Katie was ultimately head of business development. In that role it was her responsibility to create a strategy to understand what the B/D and RIA channel wanted from a product perspective and to help solve each unique business challenge that each entity faced. Today Katie is taking her extensive market knowledge to help top tier managers build distribution strategies that help the end investor gain access to institutional money managers to make them more successful in their personal investments.

Melanie Karlberg

Melanie Karlberg has 19 years of experience in the investment industry working with high net worth clients and ultimately institutional sales. She spent 11 years at Fidelity Investments as a financial planner working with hundreds of clients and managing a billion dollar book of business. In 2008 Melanie saw a growing need in her business for tactical strategies, her interest led her to a boutique investment management firm one of the fastest growing tactical firms in the industry. Melanie helped to build out the sales team and structure and ultimately closed and maintained the most profitable client for the firm. Her belief that end clients deserve the very best investments to diversify their portfolios and grow their net worth has led her to this next chapter with Tenaz Consulting and partnership with Race Rock.

Catherine Sheridan

Catherine Sheridan has been in financial markets for over 30 years and joined Race Rock in 2015. She introduces alternative products to institutions that include pensions, foundations and endowments throughout the United States and Canada. She holds Series, 3, 7, 24, 55, 63 and options principal registrations. Prior to intuitional sales, Catherine managed proprietary portfolios in convertible, merger and risk arbitrage. Catherine has a B.SC from Georgetown University 1981, Masters from Northwestern University 1984, and a M.SC from the Illinois Institute of Technology 1996.
